Consultancy Objectives:

The primary objective of onboarding the interpreters is to provide real-time sign language interpretation of all session during the event(s).  

Scope and Objective of Work:

Aawaz II is organising provincial consultations with Women with Disabilities (WWD) in KP and Punjab with community members including members of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of WWD established under Aawaz II, civil society representatives, and government stakeholders.

The Provincial Consultations with WWDs aim to provide an inclusive and safe platform for women with disabilities civil society, and policymakers to engage in meaningful dialogue on critical social and development issues pertaining to WWDs. The consultations will focus on recommendations for addressing the specific challenges faced by women with disabilities, including but not limited to child marriage, GBV, and social exclusion.

Professional Sign Language Interpreters are required to provide accurate and clear interpretation throughout the event, enabling Deaf and Hard of Hearing participants to fully comprehend and engage in discussions, panels, and interactive sessions.

Main Responsibilities:

The interpreters will be responsible for:

Pre-Event Preparation:

  • Participate in planning and orientation meeting with the SPO, PMU, and the event moderator

During event:

  • Provide accurate and real-time sign language interpretation of all sessions of the event(s).
  • Facilitate interactive question and answer segments and audience engagement.
  • Facilitate interactive Q&A segments and audience engagement.
  • Manage sensitive discussions professionally, ensuring inclusivity and respect.
  • Coordinate with event moderators and organizers to support smooth session flow.

Post event:

  • Participate in the debrief meeting with team at SPO, PMU, and event moderator

DELIVERABLES:

  • Attend the orientation meeting with PMU, SPO and moderator
  • Deliver sign language interpretation of all sessions of the 1.5-day consultation

Requirements:

This role requires: 

  • Certification or formal training in Sign Language Interpretation
  • Proven experience of providing sign language interpretation during large scale events
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate group exercises and discussions through sign language
  • Fluency in English and Urdu languages
