Overview:
Jhpiego is an international non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University, USA. For more than 50 years and in over 150 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. Jhpiego is dedicated to improving the health of women and families in developing countries.
Jhpiego, in partnership with the department of health (DoH), and Population welfare (PWD), with the funding support of BMGF, is implementing a research-based project in two districts (Kasur & Khanewal) to introduce and support DMPA-SC self-injection within the FP basket of choice. This initiative focuses on improving access to quality family planning (FP) services, enhancing uptake and continuation of injectable contraceptives, and promoting informed decision-making and agency among users.
By generating evidence and facilitating collaboration, this investment aims to inform strategic decisions for introducing and scaling up self-injection of DMPA-SC while ensuring a sustainable and impactful contribution to family planning efforts in Punjab.
Purpose:
The purpose of the assignment is to document the accomplishments, learnings and outcomes of the DMPA-SC Project. In line with this, Jhpiego Pakistan office is seeking a documentary filmmaker to direct and produce a high quality, 5-7 minutes documentary and 2-3 minutes short video clip with a great storyline theme that packages all the interventions across all the intervention locations (Khanewal, Kasur, and Lahore) in an emotional/inspirational tone. The documentary is aimed for important external stakeholders including donors, government partners, international NGOs, UN agencies, Community Based Organizations (CBOs), and other such audiences. Therefore, it needs to be of high quality, with the latest technology used to capture various shots, testimonials, stories, and produced as a wholistic package covering the project’s impact extensively and highlighting the research and program efforts. It needs to have a top-quality voice over and subtitles.
Description of Objectives:
- Draft a synopsis and script setting/storyboard that sets the essence of film. After completing the draft get it approved by Jhpiego team.
- Establish a plan and schedule to conduct interview with key stakeholders and film clips and images of key meeting/interview with Jhpiego key staff. Also accompany field staff on visits to sites where Jhpiego is currently implementing the DMPA-SC self-Injection project and film any other relevant clip and images based on approved synopsis
- Multiple shots; close ups, drone shots, B rolls, and other relevant shots shared by the Jhpiego meeting in subsequent meetings
- Travel to project areas of Khanewal, Kasur, and Lahore along with visits to country office – Islamabad, Pakistan
- Narrate, edit and produce a high-quality documentary on the project theme and share the draft version with Jhpiego for review and consent
- Providing 5-7 minutes Digital Video Disk (DVD) of the final and 2-3 minutes short video clip, approved documentary with adequate background music in finest and high-quality video formats including HD, MPEGs and MP4
- In addition to the documentary, capture at least 50-60 high quality images of DMPA-SC in the intervention Facilities and project locations.
- Obtain written consent from the participants for making videos or pictures and to share these with larger audiences at any forum or through media.
Deliverables:
The main outcome of the consultant work is to direct, edit and produce 5-7 minutes documentary and 2-3 minutes short video clip with sub-titles film, on the accomplishment and key outcomes of DMPA-SC project. The documentary will include footage of the areas shared above. The documentary should be suitable for public screening and posting on digital media.

Assignment Period/Level of Efforts (LOE):
The nature of consultancy will be activity/task based and will be completed in 2 months of period.

Selection Criteria:
- Bachelor’s in journalism/mass communication or related field.
- At least 7 years of experience in documentary making
- Excellent communication skills, networking, and negotiation skills.
- Able to travel to the project districts.
Reporting Line:
The consultant will report to the Senior Program Manager and work closely with the project team, provincial and district officials, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful recording of the project activities and testimonials.
