Scope of Work -Architect

 

Project Background:

As part of the post 2022 floods recovery in Sindh, Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF), is leading a resilient housing reconstruction program for 2.1 million households and carries a vision to systematically assess various flood affected settlements in Sindh to develop Climate Resilient Settlement Development Plan (CRSDP). This process is crucial for setting up, upgrading, and sustaining essential community infrastructures to improve access to basic public services. These plans would also help carry out the land entitlement process to vulnerable communities in Sindh.

Assessment teams will work extensively in the communities for the collection of data from households and other stakeholders. In this context, the role of an Architect is critical in ensuring the efficient execution of this short-term assignment, directly contributing to the success of this transformative initiative

 

Objective:

The objective of the Architect is to support landscape planning, design visioning, and provide planning solutions to develop essential infrastructure to meet the community's immediate needs and enhance resilience against future disasters.

The project encompasses sectors such as access to basic infrastructures and feasibility studies for climate-resilient, green, and innovative solutions to improve post-flood infrastructure and utilities, aiming that flood affected communities have safe, resilient, and dignified living in sustainable settlements.  

The Architect will be responsible for creating detailed 2D and 3D architectural drawings and animated visualization for various village facilities, including houses, roads, pathways, social infrastructure, and other physical infrastructure. The role requires proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, and other 3D rendering software to produce high-quality visualizations and designs.

 

 

Roles and Key Responsibilities: 

 

-        Develop 2D and 3D architectural drawings, Detailed master plans of entire settlement, including residential, social, and physical infrastructure.

-        Support team in 3-D visualization of settlement implementation plan and 3-D solutions of entire settlement plan and infrastructure designs.

-        Prepare detailed plans and layouts for water, Sanitation, roads, pathways, houses, and other community infrastructure facilities

-        Create realistic 3D renderings and visualizations using software such as Lumion, SketchUp, and AutoCAD. infrastructure facilities.

-        Analysis and digitization of the collected data. Preparation of Technical drawings, rendered images and testimonies

-        Collaborate with project engineers and other team members to understand design requirements and project scope.

-        Support and guide local architects to draft the designs of infrastructure.

-        Lead the neighborhood design and plan in collaboration with local architecture and technical team

-        Develop the live sketches of existing socio-cultural-construction components of infrastructures of the settlement integrating the community’s perspective.

-        Ensure that designs meet technical specifications, local regulations, and sustainability standards.

-        Revise designs and models based on feedback from stakeholders, incorporating any necessary adjustments.

-        Conduct site visits and assessments to gather data and understand project needs.

-        Integrate sustainable design principles into architectural plans, ensuring climate resilience and energy efficiency.

-        Maintain an organized library of design files, materials, and software settings for easy reference and reuse.

 

Deliverable:

  1. Live sketches of socio-cultural and construction components integrating community perspectives.
  2. Neighborhood design and planning in collaboration with local architects and technical teams.
  3. Drafted infrastructure designs with guidance and support for local architects.
  4. 3D visualization of the settlement implementation plan, including full 3D solutions for infrastructure.
  5. 2D and 3D architectural drawings include residential, social, and physical infrastructure.
  6. Detailed plans and layouts for roads, pathways, houses, and community facilities.
  7. Compliance with technical specifications, local regulations, and sustainability standards in all designs.
  8. Revised designs and models based on stakeholder feedback.
  9. Sustainable and climate-resilient design are integrated into architectural plans.
  10. Organized library of design files, materials, and software settings.
  11. Complete design package for all settlements, 2D drawing packages and mobilization of architects for 2D design production.

 

Payment Terms:

ü  Payments will be processed within 30 days of invoice submission.

ü  The consultant is required to work in person at the office for full week.

ü  The contract is deliverable based but should allow for some light additional support as requested by the CRS/SPHF Program Team Leader.

ü  This position requires 50% field travel by the consultant.

 

Reporting Relationships:

 

The Architect will be in contact with the Program Manager directly and will collaborate closely with Cluster Manager, technical experts, and field teams.

 

Duration of Contract:

 

Contract duration for the Position/assignment will be approximately 7- Months and duration may increase or decrease depending upon the completion of task.

 

Required Competencies, Experience & Qualifications:

 

-        Proven expertise in designing and implementing waste management systems in rural or resource-constrained environments.

-        Knowledge of circular economy principles and their application in waste management.

-        Familiarity with waste-to-energy technologies and local recycling practices.

-        Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on sustainability.

-        Ability to work effectively with diverse community groups and local authorities.

-        Proficiency in project management tools and waste management software.

-        Personal Qualities

-        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage local communities and stakeholders.

-        A proactive, results-oriented mindset with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver results on time.

-        Strong leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and train others.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

-        Bachelor’s degree in architecture, 3D Design, or a related field.

-        Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, and other relevant 3D rendering and visualization software.

-        Experience in designing residential and community infrastructure, with a focus on rural or village settings.

-        Strong understanding of architectural and engineering principles, including structural design and material specifications.

-        Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and adapt to project needs.

-        Excellent attention to detail, with a strong visual and aesthetic sense.

-        Good communication skills, with the ability to present design ideas clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

 

Equipment Requirements:

At the time of deployment, should have possession of the laptop with the following specifications.

-        HP/Dell Generation i7,8th Generation, (RAM 16-GB (DDR4) SSD 256 GB).

-        Battery Backup at least 2 hours on multimedia,. 4 hours on standby).

-        Display (at least 14” full HD Display (1920x1080).

 

Preferred Skills:

 

-        Experience in using other design software like Revit, Rhino, or 3Ds Max.

-        Familiarity with sustainable design practices and green building standards.

-        Knowledge of local building codes and construction practices in rural settings.
